Yousuf Laghari is renowned lawyer, columnist and activist. He belongs to Mirpurkhas’s small village, got his primary education from his native village and later district headquarter Mispurkhas. He did graduation and LLB from Sindh University in 1967. All his relatives and friends used to call him Ma’ma Yousuf. He is also known as a wonderful person and a good lawyer. 

Mr Laghari remained President of Sindh University Students’ Union in late sixties. He along with Ali Akber Brohi and others led the students’ protest of Sindh University in 1967, which was baton charges and teargassed in Ayub era. He along with over 200 students of Sindh University was arrested. This incident is remembered in the history as 4th March. This gave a new turn to the students and nationalist politics in Sindh.
Known for progressive and nationalist thought Mama always stood with political activists in thick and thin.
He was the only lawyer who fought cases of political activists during Zia Martial Law. He is much known for contesting the Jam Saqi Case, Hijacking case and others.
In nineties he formed Sindh Democrats Group to organize and mobiles the activists of Sindh.
He remained Dean of Law faculty of Sindh University for some time. Later he set opened a law college in Mirpurkhas.

He also wrote columns in Sindhi newspaper. In the ninth year, he was awarded the Best Columnist award by the Pakistan Newspapers society. Collection of his columns is published in book form. Yousuf Laghari is one of the founders of Pakistan’s Human Rights commission.
He also served as advocate General Sindh in the last round of PPP.
In December 2010, he resigned from the post of Advocate General Sindh due to his ongoing dispute with the law ministry.

Mr Laghari is still active in law practice as well as general activism.
